Based on the book by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl, the movie tells the story of Ethan (Alden Ehrenreich), a social outcast who longs to escape his small Southern town. That is until he meets a mysterious new girl, Lena (Alice Englert), who has a dark secret. Her family are magic-using ‘casters’, and it won’t be long before she has to choose whether to use her powers for good or evil.
