Lily Collins, Jamie Campbell Bower, Robert Sheehan and co are tasked with bringing Cassandra Clare’s Mortal Instruments book series to life on the big screen this summer.

Having read all five novels in the series thus far, I’m a big fan of the franchise, so obviously, I’m rather looking forward to the film. When it comes to the book versus the big screen, the novel will always win out in my eyes, but when you cast comparisons aside, you can still get a rather decent film.

So, here are just five reasons I’m really looking forward to seeing City of Bones when it hits the big screen on August 21st.

1. THE STORY
Demons, werewolves, vampires, worlds hidden within our own: There’s something truly magical about The Mortal Instruments. Not since JK Rowling captured my heart with a boy wizard have I been so glued to a book series. I quite simply could not put these books down, and devoured them rather rapidly. Clary Fray is only a teenager when she discovers that she’s a Shadowhunter, and meets a band of demon hunters who will change her life forever. Plus, there’s a deadly will they won’t they love story with no end of twists and turns.

2. THE STARS
This film has a pretty exciting cast, with the likes of Lily Collins (Snow White in Mirror Mirror and the daughter from The Blind Side. You’ll see her in a new Cecelia Ahern flick with Hunger Games hottie Sam Claflin soon too), Jamie Campbell Bower (Sweeney Todd, Twilight, and former real-life fiance of Bonnie ‘Ginny Weasley’ Wright), Kevin Zegers (It’s A Boy Girl Thing, Gossip Girl), Jemima West (She’s French and rather gorgeous) Lena Headey (Circe freakin Lannister lads) and Jared Harris (Mad Men’s Lane Pryce, yer man off Fringe, Lincoln) signing on to play some of the most iconic characters.

3. THE STRONG IRISH INTEREST
Three of the most prominent and influential characters in the series are being played by Irish actors: Our own Robert Sheehan is Simon Lewis, Clary’s love-lorn best buddy who goes on to play a pretty major role in the series, while Aidan Turner stars as her ma’s best bud (who just so happens to be a bit supernatural) Luke Garroway. And then there’s Jonathan Rhys Meyers as the mysterious and rather maniacal Valentine. Try not to giggle when you see him covered in tattoos.

4. THE SERIOUSLY SLICK TRAILERS
Every single trailer released thus far has been pretty impressive, so I really hope that it’s only a sample of what’s the come. Some movies do suffer from that little tendency to put all the good stuff in the trailer, and therefore reveal that it’s the only stuff worth seeing.

5. THE SEQUEL
It’s already been confirmed that the second book in the series, City of Ashes, will be made into a movie. Sure isn’t it good to know you won’t miss the next chapter?

And no, it’s NOTHING like Twilight.
